The seventh annual Verlorenvlei Festival of Lights or Liggiefees takes place from the 1 – 6 October.
During the festival various workshops are provided for the children, namely storytelling, drama, lantern-making and singing workshops with the aim of introducing new skills to the community of kids hungry for entertainment and inspiration. All these are aimed at stimulating the children of Verlorenvlei area, surrounding farms and Redelinghuys during their school holiday.
The week-long festival culminates with a parade, which will be held on Saturday, 6 October, by the community through the streets of Redelinghuys with candle-lit lanterns. The parade returns to the starting point at the local sport grounds where the kids participate in a drama taught to them during the week.
The drama piece that will be performed this year is the very same one that was held at the Clanwilliam Arts Project a few weeks back, namely The Owl’s Story. Many of the big structures have already been transported to Redelinghuys.
The local team of inspiring arts facilitators together with Magnet Theatre and the local children will be creating magic this week and excitement is surely growing in this small West Coast town.
